Visitors Journey to Downtown Hampton, Virginia's Past With Sights, Sounds of Ipod Tours
First of five tours available for free download on Hampton CVB web site

Hampton Convention & Visitor Bureau

Hampton, Virginia, was twice-named All-America City, the nation's oldest and most

prominent community recognition award.

This week Hampton Convention & Visitor Bureau, Hampton, VA, presented the Discover Hampton iPod Experience, an audio/visual tour designed especially for MP4 players. The tour of Downtown Hampton, the first in a series of five Hampton iPod tours, is available for free download from the bureau web site, www.visithampton.com. The self-guided multimedia tour enables the iPod-carrying visitor to tour Hampton at their own pace, whether they prefer to explore on foot, by bicycle or in a car.

Expected to increase traffic into the Hampton Visitor Center, visitation to Hampton attractions, and patronage in Hampton shops and restaurants, the iPod tours increase the user’s knowledge of Hampton’s history and the city’s historic relevance, an objective particularly important to the visitor bureau as Hampton nears its 400-year anniversary on July 9, 2010. The tours’ content includes a mix of history, actor-voice quotes and commentary, period and relevant music, historic images, video, and Hampton “insider information.”

Tour routes presently in production include the Virginia Air & Space Center, Hampton University campus, Fort Monroe/Phoebus, and Victoria Boulevard/Little England/Olde Wythe. The Virginia Air & Space Center and Hampton University campus tours will be available by late summer. As they are complete, the other Discover Hampton iPod Tours will also be available for free download from visithampton.com. iPod touring devices and headphones may be rented from Hampton Visitor Center for a $10 fee.
